Visions come to me while I listen to Touching the Earth. I am taken away completely and put in a wonderful place. I feel serenity and peace, Without boundaries or formula, every tone dances and then they all embrace. The true sounding saxophone is reminiscent of Paul Desmond, at times I hear the great John Coltrane.
The impressionist painters on the left bank opened our minds through the eyes. Touching the Earth opens our minds through the ears. Wonderfully, I see with my eyes closed while I'm hearing Touching the Earth. While hearing, I'm not alone.
How fortunate I am just to listen!
Joseph Porrello has earned over one hundred gold and platinum audio and video awards.
In addition, he is the recipient of a Grammy and Emmy award.

As Dustin Hoffman once said; ‘If you choose to be in the creative arts, be in the creative arts. If it takes sleeping in a room with ten other creatives and stealing an apple to survive, do it! Never stop pursuing your craft”. This exemplifies what Roger “Duke” Hatfield has done in his fifty plus year as a musician, writer, and record producer.
With his new album “TOUCHING THE EARTH”, I truly believe Duke has achieved his true v
oice, something I call “meditative soul”.
From his version of the ultra popular “Caruso”, to a few of my favorites
“Compassion Dance” and “When We Were Young”, each track embodies it’s own passionate mode and mood.
Whether your alone in your easy chair enjoying your favorite substance or planning a more sensuous evening, “TOUCHING THE EARTH” is a can’t miss!
The word “icon” is a precious word to be used sparingly, but if one were to be given to an unknown for his artistic achievements; The envelope please; and the winner is, Roger “Duke” Hatfield.

There is no real story here. No hook or plot line. No “rehab through music, no rock star and super model.  No copy or tribute." This is just something I always wanted to do; create music that I wanted to hear. This statement would be arrogant if it hadn’t taken decades to accomplish, but, I am getting there. Not a moment too soon I’d say. This particular collection, Touching the Earth, has taken well over a year to complete. Somewhere along the line I stopped being in a hurry, simultaneously being acutely aware that time is running short. I worked at a much deeper level on every aspect of this project. I am going to reproduce only one hundred of these CD's, when they are gone, that's it.

While it is true that I am constantly writing or recording new original material, I became deeply inspired by the song “Caruso” by Italian singer-songwriter Lucio Dalla and decided to create a cover of it for this project. “The song tells about the passion, pain and longings of a man who is about to die”.(Wiki). Although I covered it as an instrumental, I want to share this remarkable snippet from the lyrics with you;

“He felt pain in the music and got up from the piano, but when he saw the moon coming out from behind a cloud, even death seemed sweet to him.
He looked into the eyes of the girl, those eyes green as the sea,
then suddenly a tear slipped out and he thought he was going to drown.
I love you very much, very very much, you know.”

Such passion! When I heard this, I think, just maybe, I fell in love with love again. It touched me with inspiration.

These are tough times. We are forced to reevaluate our most basic of convictions. Hold onto love!

I want to express my immense gratitude to someone who has thrilled me with his musicianship at every turn of this project. Mike Divito has graced this project with droplets of pure musical magic. Many times his guitar made me pause and reassess everything I was doing on a given song steering me in a new and more interesting direction, all of this through e-mail. Although I have yet to meet Mike face to face, I feel a musical bond with him as strongly as I have felt with any musician. Thank you Mikey D and thanks to all who help me navigate daily through the inevitable rough waters.

And, thank YOU for being there, for taking the time to listen.
